Portrait of a lady
gelatin silver print 22,3 x 15,9 cm
signed on the mount and in negative

SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE € 200 - 400

The Atelier Manassé was a photography studio in Vienna and Berlin. It was founded in 1924 in Vienna by the married couple Adorján von Wlassics (1893–1946) and his wife Olga, née Spolarics (1896–1969). The studio‘s first illustrations appeared in magazines that same year. The Atelier Manassé achieved considerable fame in the 1920s through its erotic and glamorous (nude) photographs, primarily of women. The artists often combined eroticism with surreal motifs in their photographs. Some of the subjects were Viennese society figures. In the second half of the 1920s, the studio specialized in “bizarre nude montages”: Adorján von Wlassics processed photographs taken by Olga using painterly means, thus creating “photo paintings". Further artists and styles: Theater photography, film photography, dance photography, fashion photography, Art Deco Photography, Jazz Age, nude photography, advertising photography, Madame d‘Ora, Arthur Benda, Edith Glogau
PLEASE NOTE:
The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax is added to the sum of the highest bid and the buyer's premium. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items.
The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
