Hermann Schieberth, also known as Hermann Schiebert, was born on 12 February 1876 in Vama, Bukovina, and was an important Austrian photographer. He came to Vienna in 1909 and ran a photography studio on Opernring from 1910 to 1937. Schieberth made his debut in 1912 with an exhibition at the Arnot Art Salon and became known primarily for his portraits of personalities from the arts and theatre, as well as for his nude photography. The technical focus of his work included fine art printing processes such as oil, platinum and gum printing. Between 1916 and 1919, he trained the photographer Trude Fleischmann. In 1938, he emigrated from Nazi Germany to Shanghai, where he worked as a photographer until his death in June 1946. Schieberth was buried in a Jewish cemetery in Shanghai, but the grave no longer exists.
